Caring for Your Original Painting

Your painting was created to bring beauty into your life for years to come. With simple care, it will remain as vibrant as the day it left my studio.

About the Varnish

Each piece is finished with Gamvar varnish, a museum-quality protective layer that shields your painting from dust, UV light, and environmental elements. This varnish is already applied – your painting is ready to enjoy with no additional treatment needed.

Placement Guidelines

Light Exposure Avoid hanging your painting in direct sunlight. Natural light from windows is fine, but direct sun can fade colors over time. Indirect or filtered light will keep your piece looking its best.

Temperature & Humidity Keep your painting away from heat sources like radiators, fireplaces, or heating vents. Avoid placing it near air conditioning vents or in rooms with extreme humidity changes (like bathrooms or unfinished basements). Normal home environments are perfect.

Gentle Cleaning

Dust Only If your painting needs cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth to gently remove dust. That’s it.

Never Use:

  • Water or cleaning products
  • Glass cleaner or furniture polish
  • Wet cloths or paper towels

The varnish protects the paint surface, so regular dusting is all you’ll need.

Moving & Short-Term Storage

If You’re Moving Wrap your painting in acid-free paper or glassine first, then cover with bubble wrap (bubbles facing out, away from the paint surface). Place cardboard corner protectors on all four corners. Transport flat or upright – never on its face or with heavy items stacked on top.

Short-Term Storage (a few weeks to months) Store upright in a climate-controlled space, wrapped in acid-free paper or a clean cotton sheet. Keep it away from concrete floors and exterior walls where moisture can accumulate.

Long-Term Storage

Proper Conditions If you need to store your painting for an extended period, keep it in a climate-controlled environment between 65-75°F with stable humidity (around 50%). Basements, attics, and garages typically have too much temperature and humidity fluctuation.

How to Store

  • Wrap in acid-free paper or glassine (never plastic, which can trap moisture)
  • Store upright, never flat with items stacked on it
  • Keep away from direct contact with concrete or exterior walls
  • Check on it every few months if possible

What to Avoid

  • Plastic wrap or bags (traps moisture)
  • Damp spaces
  • Extreme temperature changes
  • Stacking paintings face-to-face

Long-Term Care

Your painting should maintain its beauty for generations with these simple precautions. If deep cleaning becomes necessary many years from now, consult a professional art conservator. They can safely clean and, if needed, remove and reapply varnish.
