Original oil and mixed media painting featuring two flamingos in soft coastal light. Vibrant florals frame this ethereal 24×24″ tropical sanctuary.
Two flamingos stand in gentle waters, their necks curved in an intimate heart shape as soft light washes over them. Vibrant florals frame the scene – wild blooms in pinks, corals, and warm oranges creating a lush tropical sanctuary.
I built this piece in layers, starting with flowing ink washes that created those atmospheric passages of color. Acrylics added depth and texture, while oils brought the final luminous quality – that soft, glowing light that feels like the last moments of a coastal sunset.
The flamingos embody grace itself – elegant, tender, perfectly balanced between strength and delicacy. I wanted to go all in on rich pinks and corals for this painting, letting those vibrant warm tones take center stage alongside purple shadows in the water and golden light spilling across the sky.
This painting draws from nearly a decade I spent living in Florida. Some of my favorite memories are those weekend mornings when we’d get up before sunrise and head to the beach. Everything would be bathed in golden light, and sometimes the sky would have these dramatic stormy clouds breaking apart as the sun came through. This piece captures that feeling – the grace and beauty of coastal moments that stay with you long after you’ve left.
